Safety first
- Switch off the main supply before touching anything.
- Never touch a wet panel, switch or cable.
- A submersible pump needs proper earthing; get it checked if you are not sure.
- Don't keep running a motor that is dry or very hot.
Common causes
- Air in the suction pipe or a leaking foot valve
- Water level in the bore has dropped
- Low voltage or a weak capacitor
- Worn pump or burnt winding
When to call a mistri
If the motor hums but doesn't start, trips the breaker, or the water stays low after priming, call a checked mistri. They tell you the price before pulling out or repairing the pump.
