Before drilling
- Ask neighbours and a local mistri how deep bores go in your area.
- Get a per-foot quote, with pipe, pump and fitting listed separately.
- Check with your local authority (e.g. WASA or TMA) whether permission is needed.
- Keep the bore away from septic tanks and sewer lines.
Depth and cost
Depth depends on the water table in your area, and it can drop over time. Deeper bores cost more for drilling, pipe and a stronger pump. All prices are approximate until the mistri sees the site.
Test the water
Bore water may not be safe to drink. Get it tested at a local lab or a PCRWR lab before drinking, and again if the taste or colour changes.
